The car is kept in nice working condition, and seem to mean a lot to Felix. "Feel free to change the radio station as you want. And if there is anything, let me know. Do you mind speed?" He asks, trying to determine how to drive. Doing his best to offer the best ride he can. Pulling away and driving slowly to start, just to get out from the heavier traffic. "I'm Felix, by the way." He offers and smiles. Focusing on the road until they get out on the main road and onto the straight path. "So, Oak Ridge?" He says, letting her fill in exactly where.

*——*

"I'll listen to what you've got on." Katherine responds, gazing over at Felix as he starts to drive. "I do'nt mind speed, as long as you can handle a car in the snow." She takes a deep breath, laughing softly. "I'm Kate. Kate Stone, and yeah, I live at the Bed and Breakfast up in Oak Ridge. Uhm, 100 Old Oak Drive." She supplies, folding her hands over her to-go container. "How long have you been in town, Felix?"

*——*

Felix nods and does drive off, keeping a pretty high speed once out on the road. The radio station playing some christmas songs currently. Seems like some local station though, with pop music and similar. "Nice to meet you, Kate Stone. So, Kate or miss Stone?" He asks and grins. "And I can handle it." He assures her about a car in the snow. Pondering her question as he tries to direct them in the right direction to head for the B&B. "Only a week or two. A lot of people around though, so starting to learn the lay of the land."

*——*

"Kate. I hate when people call me Miss Stone, makes me feel ancient." Kate watches out the window as the town speeds by, turning to grin at Felix. "A week or two, gosh, that's not very long at all. Have you liked it here so far? Finding anything fun to do?" She shifts a bit so she's facing him more, watching his face as he drives. "Did you ever live somewhere in the snow like this before?"

*——*

Felix grins at Kate, nodding. "Kate it is. And yes, it's been good so far. Been to the library and also done some research on the town itself." Shrugging a bit. Though as she goes on he only shakes his head as he ponders. "Not lived. Been to snowy areas for work. But I lived in L.A. mainly." He explains and smiles as he glances over to Kate. "How about you? Lived here for a long time?" Since she only mentioned living at the B&B.

*——*

"All my life." Kate says, rolling her eyes before she grins. "Well if you ever want a local to show you around the city, let me know." She spots the turn-off for the hill. "You'll turn up there, we're the second house on the left." She frowns and shifts her eyes back to the driver. "My wallet is in the house, you'll need to come in briefly. If you want you can have a cup of coffee too, it's a cold night out tonight."

*——*

Felix smiles and nods, "Will do." Turning and heading towards the house. Amusement dancing on his face as he hear her words. "That could either mean me getting robbed, a weird pick-up line, or a genuine offer." He teases her. Pulling up and parking the car. Turning to study Kate. "You seem nice though, so I'll trust you. Do you own the B&B? The offered did seem like you might."

*——*

Kate looks confused for a moment, staring at Felix for a few beats before she starts to laugh. "Oh my god, oh I am so sorry." She covers her mouth and after she gets her giggles under control, she continues. "I'm not going to rob you, uhm.. I'm too awkward for pick up lines, and this is a genuine offer. Coffee. A cookie if you want one, I've been baking for Christmas." Her cheeks are flushed as she unbuckles her seat belt. "I do own the B&B, this used to be my family home." She grins in his direction. "Looking for a place to stay? I'm affordable." She slips out of the car, shutting the door.

*——*

Felix nods and grins, "I figured. Sorry for making things awkward." He offers. "I can probably stay for a bit." He assures her. Getting out with her. "Ah, that's cool. And yeah, would be nice. If you have room?" He asks as he looks over to Kate. "Would be a nice place, and affordable is good. It looks very cozy." Offered as he looks back to her.

*——*

"Trust me, you're not the awkward one here." Kate studies him while he's looking away, eyes narrowing slightly. "I have a room available, two actually, you would have a choice. After the coffee is brewed I can show you both rooms and you can decide if you want to stay, how about that?" When he looks back at her, she flashes a smile at him. "C'mon in!" She leads him through the entryway, great room and into the kitchen. She moves over to the coffee pot, starting a fresh batch.

*——*

Felix smiles and nods. "Sounds great." He offers and nods as he follows Kate inside. Into the kitchen to get some coffee. "It is quite nice here."

*——*

Kate watches the coffee brew slowly, opening a cookie jar and pulling out several chocolate chip cookies. She sets them on a platter and then places them on the counter. "Have a cookie. So, are you looking for a place in town? How long would you want to stay?" She shrugs a shoulder and grins. "I don't rush anyone out, I like having company in the house." She pulls mugs down from a cupboard, setting them on the counter as she waits for the coffee to brew. "Oh shit, the money." She hustles over and pulls her purse off the coat hook, pulling out money she pads over to Felix and hands him a few folded bills. "Is this enough?"

*——*

Felix ponders the question. "Oh, not sure. I'm looking for family in Calaveras. So we will see." He offers and smiles. A bit amused as Kate goes to get the money. Nodding as she hands over the money. "Yup, that's good. But. If I am staying you might as well keep them, and I should pay for how long I am staying. If you want I could also offer free rides for you." He offers and smiles.

*——*

Not too long later, August wanders in. She carries with her a little sandwich of two disposable plates with food in between the laters. How she managed the trip without spilling something on her white coat or jeans is anyone's guess. How she got here is anyone's guess, though it could have easily been an Uber. Or a random cowboy. August is that kind of woman.

August's heels announce her arrival before anything else, clack, clack, clacking along toward the kitchen.

Aug makes her way into the kitchen already unbuttoning her coat with one hand, plates balanced in the other. She works her fingers down large white buttons. "Hey." Her greeting is soft.

*——*

"Family? Oh, well…" Katherine nibbles on her bottom lip, glancing down at the money before she glances up at Felix. "Well, I should give you the spiel." She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. "Rooms are fifty dollars a night, that includes three meals and laundry service if you need it. I film a show in the great room from seven until nine, but the kitchen will still be accessible, and I have breakfast cooked before we start. I cook a second batch after the show wraps." She shifts her eyes toward the door, smiling at August as she enters. "Evening, August. You're just in time for some coffee, and regular cookies. Come have a seat?"

*——*

Felix does look over as August arrives, a smile and nod to her. "Hey." Then lookng back to Kate, with a nod. "Awesome." He offers. "Sounds good to me." As for family, there is a slow nod. "Yeah. I've been doing the genealogy stuff, which led me here." Sitting and relaxing some.

*——*

Aug wanders over to put her plate down on the counter, hooking a stool with her boot to pull it closer as she's offered a seat. She doesn't let that pass. The tattooer shrugs out of her long wool coat, throwing it over her chair before she takes up her perch atop that. "I've had Kate's cookies. If her baking's that good, I imagine the rest falls right into line." August with the assist. "Oh, do you have tea, Kate? I can make it if you point me in the direction of the…" She glances around then, because there's probably a basket of supplies right by the coffee pot.

Aug wears a simple white camisole under her coat, baring most of her chest piece tattoo, and arms. She leaves her scarf wrapped around her throat, though she does loosen it, letting it drape down over her chest. The full of both tattoo sleeves are still visible, suggesting once again that if August put on more clothing, she probably wouldn't be so cold all winter. She lifts a hand to give Felix another hello, since they only sort of met in passing the first time maybe an hour ago, if that. She goes quiet for a moment before commenting, "Genealogy project brought you here? That's a new one, but curious."

*——*

"I'll make it, you settle down and get comfortable." Katherine moves to the coffee pot, pouring coffee in a mug before she sets it in front of Felix. "Here you go." She puts the kettle on the stove, turning up the heat. "I hope you find what you're looking for, it makes sense now why you went ot the library. If you were going to find anything, that would be an excellent place to start." She gets out a few more cookies now that August is here. "You know, Auggie, you could come for dinner sometime. I'm making fried chicken tomorrow, it's going to be delicious." She folds her arms, leaning against the counter as she waits for the kettle to whistle. "I have a lot of different kinds of tea, what kind do you fancy?"

*——*

Felix does take a cookie and bite into it. Nodding in agreement with Auggie. "She's right. These are great." He assures Kate. Studying Auggie's tattoos as she get out of her coat. "Yup, it did. Different perhaps, but it is fun. Trying to track down folks." He says and shrugs. "I'm Felix, by the way." Turning back to Kate as she offer coffee. "Thank you. Great service." He says and grins. Letting the two of them chat while he enjoy the coffee.

*——*

The tattooer offers another of those little smiles to Kate as the brunette fusses about to make the tea August asked for. "The local librarian I met is a smart woman. She'd probably be open to helping you. Ask for Esme." She glances over to Kate at the mention of fried chicken. "Are you?" She straightens. "I would love to." The inflection on that word is slight, but it's enough to telegraph her enthusiasm for homemade fried chicken. You cannot offer that to a Southern girl and have her say no, even if she's from Florida.

She reaches up to bury black nails in the handknit fiber of her long, fluffy scarf, fiddling with the drape again. "Anything spicy and strong. Strong black chai is my favorite. Three sugars, cream or milk." She likes it sweet too.

August sat at the counter on a stool, wearing a white camisole, white skinny jeans, leather ankle boots, and a fluffy white scarf. Nearby is Felix, who's just been served a coffee. Kate's leaned against the counter having just gotten a kettle going, welcoming her guests with hot drinks to take down the winter chill.

"August Lexington," Aug says to Felix. "But you can call me Auggie if you like."

*——*

"I have chai." Katherine stands on her tip toes, reaching for tea in the cupboard. She gives August an envious look, standing near the stove in a faded white tee-shirt and a pink flannel. Her jeans are dark denim and she's only in her socks now in the house. "Glad you like the cookies." She says to Felix, pulling the kettle from the stove when it starts to whistle. She dips the bag into the cup and pours the water, setting it in front of August to steep. She sets out a creamer pot and a sugar bowl nearby, a spoon set next to the cup. "Well then, it's a date of sorts. You'll have dinner with us tomorrow." She turns back to pour herself a cup of coffee, adding two dark chocolate squares. "Mashed potatoes and corn on the cob to go with it." She eyes Felix. "If you get moved in, you can come too. If you don't, you can still come. I haven't turned anyone away from dinner since I opened this place up." She dips a spoon into her cup and stirs it a few times, leaning against the opposite counter.

*——*

Felix ahs and nods to August suggestion. "Will do, next time I go to the library." He offers and smiles, "Thanks." Studying August for a moment. "Noted, and might." He offers to her before glancing to Kate as well. "Well, I am thinking about moving in. If there is space for the car to be parked." He offers and smiles. "And fried chicken sound awesome." Shifting some in his seat, but mainly to be able to watch them both better.

*——*

Sevin is starting to learn his way around this place. Well enough, at least, to know where its proprietor is likely to be hunkered down on a night like this. Home and hearth, and all that. He strolls in with a box under one arm, tied off with red ribbon. Looks a bit fancy for something he'd have managed, but one never knows. Two raps on the door to gain Katherine's attention; August is noted, but his gaze doesn't linger, and Felix earns a curious flick of eyes but no greeting. Yet.

"Ms. Stone, good evening." Battered bomber jacket, knit sweater. Dark jeans and work boots, and a bit of frost starting to melt here and there on his scruffy beard.

*——*

"Thanks, sweetheart," is Auggie's soft reply to Kate. She usually uses it as a casual nickname for clients, and it's always genuine, but with the B&B proprietor, a little more warmth is creeping in by degrees. Pretty much every time the woman welcomes Aug into her kitchen. She taps a fingernail lightly against the cup, turning it a little, lightly slipping her fingers against the porcelain. She waits for it to steep before making any additions, dunking the bag a couple of times. "I will have dinner with y'all tomorrow," Aug agrees, setting that into her social calendar. The previous entry was 'quality time with misappropriated cookies,' so home cooking is definitely an upgrade. A smile flirts with the corners of her lips as she sits there breathing in the wonderfully fragrant steam swirling up off of her steeping tea.

Aug flicks a glance over to Felix as he makes his agreement to come to dinner, and perhaps take up residence in the bed and breakfast. "I'll be over at the Mad Tatter after Christmas, Felix, if you're at all interested in tattoos." She just won't be happy until she's marked everyone in this town. She glances over when Sevin knocks and enters, but this evening, she merely glances at the man, then reaches for the sugar bowl.

*——*

"You're welcome, Auggie." Katherine murmurs, taking a sip of her coffee. "I'm glad that you'll come by for dinner, I might even add cornbread to the menu and scrap the corn on the cob." She picks up one of the cookies, dips it into her coffee, and takes a bite. She smiles when Sevin walks in, her eyes on the package under his arm. "Is that another earring?" She teases, moving to pour the man some coffee before he even requests it. "Cookie?" She offers, gesturing to the plate. "So, Felix. I have the loft room available, annd I also have the rose room. You don't like pink, do you?"

*——*

Felix nods slowly at the offer from Auggie. "Ah, perhaps. We'll see." He says and nods a bit, pondering the offer perhaps. Then his gaze goes to Sevin, raising a brow. A bow of his head offered to him but he won't disturb since he is mainly talking to Kate for now. Sipping on his coffee. Looking to Kate as she speak directly to him. "I don't mind it, but from the way you say that. I think maybe the loft is better?" He suggests and grins. Glancing to Sevin again, but not intruding yet.

*——*

Sevin might have been watching August while Katherine was trying to talk to him. It's a distinct possibility, given how out of sorts he looks when he discovers her watching him and pointing to a plate with absolutely no context. Wordlessly, he ambles on over and slides his not-so-mysterious box onto the counter near where Katherine's bustling about fetching people drinks. Not so mysterious, because there's a clear plastic window that makes it fairly clear he's brought cupcakes.

"Red Velvet, Lascivious Lime-" He mangles that one pretty badly. "-Nuts for Maple, and Lemon Dream." The box is nudged an inch closer, and he lowers himself into a seat at the counter while he awaits his coffee. "Thought I might drop these off, since I'm not sure if I'll see you tomorrow or the day after." There's an envelope attached to the ribbon, addressed to 'Kate'.

*——*

"Cornbread and a little maple syrup is the best food. It's good any time of the day, breakfast or dessert." August says this as she spoons several heaping spoons full of sugar into her cup of tea. Anyone who loves tea would likely find that amount of sweetness absolutely horrifying. It's a tea-travesty, really. Glossy black nails fix on a cookie and scuttle it back to Aug's place. She eats that without dipping it in her tea, listening to Felix and Kate suss out the room arrangements.

August glances up when Sevin starts listing off cupcake flavors. She eyes the box. She literally ate half an oreo cupcake earlier, at the Christmas party at the square, but there sits a box of cupcakes once again within reach. Her pale eyes fix on it. She has a cupcake problem. August stops spooning in sugar, and gives her tea a stir. "I heard the lemon one is really good, but I haven't tried it yet. The Oreo is spectacular." She enunciates that word in the way most people would wax on about a really tender steak dinner. She reaches for the creamer and splashes some into her tea, letting it swirl to a pale almond brown.

*——*

Katherine stares at the cupcake box, letting out a sigh. "Christmas cupcakes." She murmurs, opening the box to scoop some icing from the lime before she sticks her fingertip in her mouth. She eyes August for a moment before she grins. "I've had every flavor in that damned shop. My favorite are the unicorn farts, but you have to ask for them. Mounds of rainbow frosting, and the most inventive cake batter. I couldn't even tell you /what/ kind of cupcake it is, but..yes, amazing." She beams at Sevin, reaching in the box to pull out the lime cupcake. "Thank you for these. She sets his coffee in front of him, peeling the paper from the dessert. She snags the letter and sets it next to her coffee cup. Once she deals with the paper, and sets the cupcake on a little plate, digging a piece off with her spoon.

*——*

Felix smiles as he listens. "Hi." Offered to Sevin as he joins them. Grinning about cornbread. "Sounds tasty." Sipping more on the coffee. Not judging August too much about the violation of the tea. Grinning widely at the name of the cupcake that Katherine suggests. "I'll have to go there and try them." He replies, nodding at that.

*——*

"No problem. I figured you could use more sugary treats around here," claims Sevin with a straight face. He's probably being facetious, but it's impossible to tell with him. The coffee, meanwhile, is cupped in both hands and brought to his mouth for a slurpy sip. Felix gets a nod as he's wiping a bit of spillage off his salt-and-pepper scruff. "Evening." He doesn't even bother asking about Unicorn Farts. Americans.

*——*

August watches Kate scoop up frosting with a little smirk, which morphs into a little open-mouthed look at the mention of cupcakes called 'unicorn farts.' She thinks about that for a moment. Perhaps deciding if walking into a cupcakery in all her tattooed glory and ordering Unicorn Farts is a thing that she can do. She spoons the bag out of her cup, squeezing it against the rim of her cup, and then sets that aside and brings it to her lips to sip, testing the temperature.

"You can never have too many sugary treats," Aug observes, turning her teacup in her hand again to cradle it between her hands. She lifts it and holds it between them, nursing a super-sweet, spicy scented liquid piece of heaven. "What do people around here do for New Years?" Christmas hasn't even come yet, and she's already looking forward to the new year. "Get really drunk and ride the mechanical bull at The Alibi?"

*——*

"Did you want to try the lemon?" Kate offers, nudging the box toward August with a grin. "They're so good." She spoons another bite of cupcake from her plate, frowning. "Well people tend to go all out for Christmas here, as you can see, but New Year's isn't so big. Most people have celebrations at home, but the bars get some business." She sucks on her spoon for a moment and then sets it on her plate. "I'm supposed to go to Rio, but I think I'm going to stay home." She wrinkles her nose and lets out a sigh. "I don't want to go to a foreign country alone, no matter how much I want to get out of Colorado." She settles her gaze on Sevin for a moment, glancing at the note. Realizing that everyone is taken care of, she shifts, both hands moving to the opposite counter that everyone is seated at. She hoists herself up, picking up her cupcake plate. "So what I'm hearing is that we're going to the Alibi, and I might get drunk for the third time in my life."

*——*

Felix grins at the reactions from August aboout the cupcake. Occasionally glancing and studying Sevin. Taking a moment to note down some things to himself. Mainly cause the two of them have not interacted much. A smirk as he hear August. Looking towards her. "Fair point. And I wouldn't know. I'm still new." Looking to Kate at that. Letting her offer what people are up to at New Years. "I would happily join. But seems it might be a busy day driving. But. We'll see, maybe I'll skip the driving for one day." He suggests, and grins.

*——*

Sevin works his jaw slightly when the lemon cupcake is mentioned. God knows, maybe he's got an axe to grind with that one. He slurps at his coffee again though, working the warmth into his frigid fingers. A few cuts and nicks mar them, as if he'd recently been labouring with his hands. Outside in the snow, by the looks of him. Catching Felix watching him, a faint smile is tipped the younger man's way, though it seems distracted. "If you don't think it'll be a mistake missing out," he tells Katherine. Watching her, and then the card for a beat. And then his lashes swoop low for another swig of coffee.

*——*

August wasn't going to reach until it's offered, so almost immediately as Kate offers, the woman says, "Yes." She glances over at Sevin, pale gaze sweeping over his face as she does so, like she's asking if it's okay with him, since he did bring them. She clears her throat and asks, "Would you like half?" A beat. That seems to have been to the older man.

She leans in, reaching all the way over to that box to pluck out the bright yellow frosted cupcake, glossy black, pointed nails incoming like a grabby monster.

Aug opens her mouth to ask Kate why she'd ever pass on Rio, but then closes her mouth. For once she's sober enough to connect some dots before her mouth walks her into trouble. "That's a shame. It's so cold here." It's Colorado, Augs. Catch up. "Traveling alone's not bad, but you do have to be careful where you go." She means as a woman alone, but doesn't specify that. All women know that. It's a thing. "I think The Alibi is a good choice. If the owner doesn't carry champagne, I'm sure we could bring some." Sammy's going to be thrilled.

"Look at it this way," she says to Felix. "If you skip it, you have a 99 percent chance of not having to clean red wine stains out of your backseat." She was going to phrase that another way, but everyone's eating or drinking, and she does have some manners.

*——*

Katherine is gazing at her cupcake as she carves off another piece with her spoon, her gaze flits up between August and Sevin as they discuss cupcake sharing and for a brief moment she looks abashed because she didn't offer to share hers with anyone. It's more than halfway gone now, too late. "My first time out of the country, I don't think I should do that alone. I'll get out of the state eventually, maybe. Perhaps I'm meant to stay here forever." She rolls her eyes, smirking slightly as she licks frosting off of the spoon in her mouth. She pulls the spoon free and grins. "I have a pair of chaps from a Halloween costume four years ago, Though I'm not sure it's going to help." She turns to grin at Felix. "Help yourself to a cupcake if you'd like one, and I hope you come. New Year's should be a party, and people should make arrangements to get home safely beforehand." She slants a look at August. "You'll get me home safe, somehow, won't you?"

*——*

Felix does finish the coffee, staying where he is for the time being. "It is a bit cold, but I think it could be worse." He suggests and smiles. Smirking at the joke by Auggie. "Well, that isn't too bad. But still bad." He offers about the stains. "Well, perhaps I should do the drinking instead then." Nodding about Kate traveling alone. "Well, find someone to bring with you." He suggests and smiles. "I'd drive you, but think it will be too far of a drive in my cab." Grinning some and looking to the cupcakes. Glancing to Sevin to see if it is okay though, as well.

*——*

Sevin is watching Katherine eat her cupcake with a spoon, and seems mesmerized. A spoon. And 'discussing' is a strong word; August is talking to him, and he's doing his best to avoid looking at her. A little shake of his head, mossy greens on the cupcake, and the clawlike nails curling around it to liberate it from its boxy prison. "All yours," he murmurs. As to Felix, he gestures Katherine's way. They're her cupcakes, she gets to decide who eats them. A more socially savvy man would probably ask what all this talk about the Alibi's about, but he doesn't even go there. He drinks his coffee and he soaks in the warmth and ambience of quiet conversation, but seems disinclined to do much else.

*——*

August's fingertips are stained with yellow frosting as she maneuvers the cupcake onto a plate, almost losing grip on it because fingernails. She reaches for a spoon to use in bisecting the frosted confection, then shoves the spoon in her mouth while she pries the cupcake apart with black nails. She leaves half on the plate, and retreats back to hers with half. "Lemon?" Aug asks of Felix when Sevin passes, nodding to the plate with half a cupcake.

She rips off a huge chunk of the cupcake top and shoves it into her mouth, awkwardly swapping the spoon out of her mouth with the same hand, a huge glob of frosting going with it. With a bite that big, hopefully it's amazing, because otherwise, awkward. Americans.

"When do chaps hurt?" August asks, a hand in front of her mouth, because she hasn't finished chewing. "Holy shit, that's zesty." Yes, it's a lemon cupcake. She licks the frosting from her fingertip, reaches for her tea, and glances from Felix over to Sevin.

*——*

Katherine clears her throat, something getting her attention for a moment but then she dips back into the conversation. "Well, August.. I am so not brave when it comes to dressing up. I would be absolutely mortified wearing chaps, and would probably be beet red the entire evening." She scoops another bite of cupcake, getting a lot of frosting on her spoon. She takes her time licking it off, her eyes halfway closed. She blinks a few times, pulls the spoon from between her lips and shrugs at Felix. "I mean, it's a week before New Year's Eve. Not exactly something you drop on someone that quickly. Hi, would you like to go to Rio with me? The place we're staying only has one bed, and a lot of alcohol, what /could/ go wrong?" She leans to the side, setting her cupcake plate down to snag her coffee. She sips at it as she kicks her feet back and forth. "I'll stick around town and …go out, stay in. Something."

*——*

And then there's August, tearing into her cupcake like a.. well, there are no words for what she just did to that poor defenseless treat, really. Savagery. Black nails tipped with frosting, and there's a spoon in the mix, and something about chaps. And Sevin looks like he's spotted a train wreck outside his window. In slow motion. His eyes meet hers, just for a moment, when she reaches for her tea.

And then a breath is blown out his nose and he turns away. Tosses back the last of his coffee, and eases to his feet to round toward the sink. Man moves with the slightest of limps, difficult to spot on a good day, but today's clearly been a hard one. Talk of the hotel room in Rio, and its single bed and copious amounts of alcohol seem to have gone riiiight over his head.

*——*

Felix takes a moment, letting the others enjoy the cupcakes first. Auggie seem quite in the midst of attacking them after all. Though at the offer from August, he smiles and nods. "Thanks." Taking a piece of what is offered. grinning about not knowing how to ask people to join her, he shrugs to Kate. "Fair point. I'd join you, but yes. Sounds awkward to share the bed." He teases. "No family or similar that could join you?" He suggest instead. Glancing to August and Sevin as well.

*——*

"If you're worried about blushing, I have some tattoo coverup that'll give you a base coat so opaque, no one will see it," Aug teases Kate, glancing over from her massacre of the little confection. "I'll do your makeup. It's like armor, you know. You do it right, nobody can see what's going on underneath it unless you let them." She watches Kate clean the spoon, then smiles, but it's a small one and just for herself.

At the question of what could go wrong with a lot of alcohol and a bed in Rio, August coughs. She just shoved the rest of the cupcake half into her mouth, and apparently that was a bad idea. She coughs a couple of more times, then recovers, and waves her hand a little in the air like I'm fine, I'm good, but doesn't actually say that. She picks up her tea to take a gulp, washing away the cake trying to end her.

"You should definitely go out," August finally says, eyes watering a bit. She reaches up to dab them with the side of her finger, leaving a little smudge of lemon frost on her cheekbone. She doesn't seem to notice, because she finishes her tea, and finally gets hold of breathing and chewing at more or less the same time. "… Welcome," she says to Felix as he scoops up that other half of the lemon iced cupcake. "Careful."

"When you have the choice, always go out. Unless it's snowing. Or iced up. Or sleeting. Then stay in with Netflix. Or bikers. Bikers are excellent distraction during awful weather." She's just going to keep talking unless someone jumps in.

*——*

Katherine eyes Felix for a few moments, a thoughtful look on her face. "Have you ever been out of the country before?" She asks, and then the offer from August is made, and she raises her brows, nodding in her direction. "You did say you were going to show me your tricks. I need them." She wrinkles her nose, leaning back on her hands. "I usually stay home. I started going out more this year, and there have been good points and bad points to it. There isn't anything out there that I miss when I'm at home. Silly, isn't it?"

*——*

Sevin takes a minute to wash out his cup, demonstrating that he can in fact operate a bottle of dish liquid and a scrubby. Once it's rinsed off, he dries it with a tea towel and sets it aside, then jams his hands into the pockets of his coat. "I should get out of your hair," he tells Katherine. Brief glance to August and the icing on her cheek. A flinch of movement like he might help her with it, but it resolves into nothing. "You, uh." He points to his own cheek, carpeted in scrubby greying beard, and then sends Katherine a rather disarming smile as he tries to snag her dark eyes with his own far paler greens. "You take care of yourself. Okay?"

Felix smirks at August. "Careful." He offers to her. Gesturing to her cheekbone. At the frosting. Hearing Katherine's words, nodding slowly. "Once, when working on a movie. Stuntman stuff." He explains. "I've never been out on a vacation though. And it was a chase scene in London." He explains and grins. Nodding a bit to her words to August as well. Hearing Sevin helping August out with the frosting as well, grinning a bit. Offering a wave to Sevin as he seems to be leaving. "Take care."

Oh, thank god. Katherine to the rescue with a question to Felix. It's not until Sevin moves from his domestic task that August rises from her stool and turns to the sink, filling her mug with a little good old fashioned tap water. At Felix's warning, she reaches up to smudge some frost off her face, though she misses it with the first two swipes. "God. Thanks." Embarrassing.

She leans against the counter, her back to the others, filling the cup up halfway. "I will, I would love to. I should be around the next few days, off work, if you'd like to try that one night, but it has to be a night you're going out." She turns her head to give Kate a one-third profile. "You can't waste a good eye night on pajamas and wine. Well, you can. But someone should be buying you a drink for going to the trouble."

Aug takes a moment to wash her hands while she's there, cleaning frosting from her fingers and under her nails. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, water running over her hands. She feels for the faucet blind, shuts it off. Her fingertips drip for a moment before she flicks them a couple of times into the basin. She rolls her neck and reaches up to touch the back of it, damp fingers leaving behind droplets. She finally glances askance at the apparently-departing professor and says, "Goodnight, Sevin."

Katherine looks vaguely alarmed as Sevin starts to leave, and then August says she has to go out when her make up is done. She grimaces. Most people might say something at this point, but she sits there, stewing before she picks up the small plate, scooping the rest of the cupcake on her spoon and stuffing it into her mouth. She chews slowly, grateful for the brief moments where she doesn't have to respond, and then she swallows. "I don't go out very much, and I ..the people buying drinks.." She exhales, her hair fluttering out of her face. Her cheeks are flushed and what is the best way to cover that? She moves to put away the cupcakes, putting them in the pantry before she closes the door with a bang. "Thank you for stopping by, Sevin. It was nice to see you." She turns her head, making brief eye contact before she moves on to do something else.

*——*

There's subtext here that Sevin should be aware of. He's certain of it, but can't for the life of him seem to figure out why Katherine seems so flustered all of a sudden. So he stands there like an idiot for a good thirty seconds, watching the back of August's head. Distracted by her farewell. Distracted by the stuffing of cupcake into Kate's mouth.

There's subtext here that he should be aware of.

But instead of addressing it, he gives a slight nod that seems to suffice as a combined farewell, and misses the blushing entirely as he ambles off for the door with that terribly slight hitch in his step.

Felix raises a brow as he looks between the trio. "Well, you could always have house parties as well." He suggests and shrugs. A nod to August's words though. "I suppose you have a point." Glancing to Sevin again. "Oh, I'm Felix, by the way. Feel free to call on me if you need a taxi." He offers before looking back to the other two. Studying Kate for a moment. "Well, either way. A group and out having fun could be nice." He suggests.

August drains the cup of water standing at the sink, her inked fingers hooked in the handle. She seems to be better when she's pressed against a piece of furniture with something to keep her hands busy. Those silvery eyes watch Sevin's limping gait as he retreats.

"We could go out as a group? You know, whatever, get some girls together and buy each other rounds or something. Just go have a good time, a couple drinks, come back and crash out. Romantic boys, you know, or ladies," she says with emphasis, "Need only enter into the picture if you have too many appletinis or whiskeys or shitty beers, and you want them to."

When Sev's gone round the corner, August sags against the sink, coming down to her elbows resting on it. She reaches up to turn the water on again, refilling her cup, a lazy slant to it about to spill all the water right back out. She straightens after a few beats, shuts the water off, and turns. Her gaze goes to Felix first, but ends on Katherine and stays there.

Katherine watches August at the sink, for once there is an unreadable look on her face. She folds her arms over her chest, considering her words for a few moments before she shrugs, her smile back on her face even if it is subdued. "We'll see what happens, I'm due to go out to a bar again, as long as we don't go to the Boardroom — I'll be okay." August sagging against her sink makes her brow furrow, and she looks as if she wants to say something, but instead what she does is turn to Felix. "Would you like to see your room? I'll give you a key before.." She makes a vague motion toward the upstairs. "I should probably …I should probably do something." Her face is a window, and anyone looking in right now would see that she's wary.

Felix does look between the two of them. He's only the driver after all, so is a bit uncertain where he sits. Rising to his feat. Which is around when Kate speaks to him, nodding a bit. "Oh, yeah. Sure." Waving his hand a bit dismissively. "It should all be good. Thanks." Giving her a warm reassuring smile. Trying to help ease her mind, noticing the look on her face. A brief glance towards August to meet her gaze. Hearing her words to Kate as well. "Sounds like you guys could have a fun time like that." He assures them. Looking back to Kate. "Thanks for the coffee and cookies, and cupcakes as well." He offers with a smile.

*——*

August glances over at Felix, and a ghost of a smile quirks her lips. "Do you have a card? My car's in the shop and maybe I could call you for rides sometimes?" She clears her throat. And once more.

August swallows, then brings the water to her lips, sipping while she glances over to watch Katherine. August's gaze is moon-colored and steady. Her brows draw together a bit, and she finally looks away. "Go ahead. Up to the room. I'll um." She swallows. "Finish up my drink and maybe sit by the fire for a little bit." She finishes her water, taking a long pause in order to do so. "It that's okay. Maybe talk later." That's not a question and it's a little flat, and she won't look at Kate now. Because she has a mug in her hands that needs setting in the sink. August does that.
