Skate Date. A local tradition in Calaveras. One part skating rink and one part discotheque, Skate Date has been serving the young an young at heart for generation. And, judging by the music thumping out of the speakers, the sound track likes to keep the history alive - a winding reel of the greatest pop and dance hits of the 70's and 80's. Some patrons may find the atmosphere out of touch, but to many others it is timeless.

Counted among the latter is a young woman who seems to be enjoying every moment. Standing out from the crowd in for-fitting shredded jeans and a loose tank emblazoned with the words "Be Better!" across the front, the blonde is putting on a show near the center of the ring, embracing the dancing more than the skating as she bobs and weaves to whatever rhythm echoes around the rink. As she spins and sways, she often grabs a random passerby to join her before flitting away to the next victim.

Eve has found the skating court, and this is on her second day in town! Sure, she's overflowing with energy that drives her to explore, but at this rate the girl is going to run out of places to explore in a week. After all, Calaveras ain't exactly Paris, with that tower and the Louvre and all that fancy crap.!

And second day doesn't mean Eve's not already making friends with totally random strangers; it helps when one is a pureblood extrovert. In fact, she is busy blabbing to a group of young people who she clearly doesn't know, but when does that ever stop her? She files into the skating ring with them, and quickly speeds up to join the maelstrom of circling skaters. Aside from her hair, Eve is a blur of orange and black thanks to her loud top; maybe someone should point out Halloween is over!

But even before she finishes a full circuit of the ring, Eve notices someone in the center dancing and snagging everyone's attention. As if Kyrie were the proverbial shiney object, Eve slows down and begins to skate her way closer for a look. Once she's close enough, coming up behind a tall lanky young man, Eve's eyes go big and loudly exclaims into the guy's ear. "HOLY SHIT! Do you know who that is? That's Kee Morgan of the GeeLees, man!"

If there is a spotlight to be had, Kyrie is all too happy to steal it and if she came to Skate Date with a companion, that poor soul has been long since neglected as she weaves from partner to partner. Some people are happy to join her twirling and not-so-safe-for-children dancing, but more than a few scowls find her way as she absconds with a boyfriend or girlfriend for a few moments. However, while it may not be a stage, the music, the lights, the attention… the smile on Kyrie's face and the gleam in her eyes betrays that she is loving every minute of it.

Eventually, she rolls out of the center and makes a wide loop of the ring, skating at a reckless velocity like a shark on the prowl at Studio 54. As she finds a target, she reaches out to grab the wrist of the girl in orange and black and drag her along. Apparently she isn't the only one who stands out tonight.

"Hey there, Day Glow. Think you can keep up? Or is all that flash just for show?" Kyrie teases as she lures the younger woman into her antics.

*

The lanky guy who just got an earful from Eve turns a stink-eye towards the girl. "What's a GeeLee?"

In turn Eve just stares at him. "You don't know the Gee… okay sorry gramps, obviously I mistook you for someone cool who gets Girl Glam. I'm just gonna keep…"

Eve doesn't even get to finish smartmouthing when Kyrie swoops in from an unexpected direction and grabs her wrist. Caught by surprise, she stumbles the first couple of steps but quickly finds her balance. "Hey! What's the…" She begins to yell, but realizes then it's Kyrie who's dragging her along. Well her entire demeanor changes right there! "Dude! You're Kee Morgan!" Eve squees, as if not hearing Kyrie's tease. "I have like, both your albums! Oh-em-gee, man! I heart you! Hey, you know what? I totes know all your dances! Which one are we doing? Huh? Huh? Which one?"

*

Everett has arrived.

*

Kyrie doesn't miss a beat and makes Eve work to keep up as they skate along, merciless in her pursuit of fun. She leans back as she pulls on the other woman, executing a tight spin as the techno-beat and synthesizers dance off the walls. A lopsided grin rewards the apparent fan's words as they sink in.

"No shit? Both albums? You must be the only one who actually bought the second one," she replies with a toss of her head to clear a few renegade curls from her features as she skates backwards, "Right now we're skating, Day Glow. If any dancing creeps in, I blame the music. If the beat's good, I'm not responsible for what happens."

As if on queue she hip bumps a rather large, athletic man who looks none too amused. As she spins from the collision, she says to her current skating partner in a teasing tone, "Tsk. There you go, getting me into trouble already. I thought you were cool."

Eve totally keeps up with Kyrie, even if that tight spin sends her mess of platinum and pink curls flying in every direction, but hey, she's grinning wide and silly so clearly she is unfazed. The grin doesn't fade EVEN when Kyrie bumps into the man, who still looks a bit annoyed at the collision; for her part, Eve spreads her hands to profess her innocence. "I am totes cool! I'm the coolest cucumber this side of the Mississippi. That?" She pauses to gesture at the athletic guy, spinning to skate backwards away so she can point both index fingers at him. "In yo face, Noodle-Butt!" Even as she is retreating rapidly, Eve adds a very, very loud raspberry at the poor guy.

So, in high school, skating was accomplished on Friday nights after the football games, with all of the other high school students flooding the building with hormones and hungry teenagers. But, now that Everett is in college? … the skating rink probably isn't that different. Except, it's not Friday, it's Tuesday. And there aren't that many high school students present, since there's school tomorrow.

Having already gotten his skates and stuff, Everett is sitting down, tying them on, at the moment, and watching the rink floor. 80s night. Not his favorite theme, but. He likes skating, so! It's been almost a year since he's gone, so he /may/ be a little rusty! But, it's almost time to find out!

*

"Noodle butt?" Kyrie lifts a curious brow at the turn of phrase before laughing and exclaiming, "Oh my God. Brilliant! I like the cut of your jib, Day Glow!" She effortlessly winds in and out of slower skaters as they make their way around the rink and continues, "And, before you ask, I have no freaking idea what a jib is, but it's something Roman used to say and it kind of stuck on me. I think it's something the olds say to one another."

As the skaters make their way around, Kyrie spots a familiar face - the kid she met at the grocery storm during the epic storm build up a few months back. "Yo, Muscles!" she calls out to Everett as they draw closer and she reaches out to smack him on the shoulder in passing, "Tag you're it!"

And now it's on!

*

Delilah has arrived.

*

Why exactly is she being named Day Glow? Probably due to the high contrast orange patterns on her otherwise black top and pants! Still following Kyrie in this daring high speed chase around the ring, Eve turns back to face front at the glam rocker. "No shit? Them old Romans, leaving us with all that good stuff. Candles. Numerals. And now jibs!" And then she pipes down (temporarily) when Kyrie clips the dark-skinned boy as she speeds pass; well Eve doesn't know him, so she doesn't try to sideswipe him. Instead, she follows in Kyrie's wake and zips past him, although he gets an eyeful of Eve's cross-eyed, tongue-hanging silly face.

*

Having /just/ made it out onto the rink floor, Everett was not prepared for tag. Or for Kyrie, who he doesn't really recognize. But, he's getting more and more used to people recognizing /him/, But, Kyrie seems harmless, and Everett is definitely not one to shy away from a challenge, so after the several seconds it takes for him to process, he's on his way after Kyrie! Let's see if she can outrun an athlete going to school on scholarship! Eve's face draws a chuckle from him, though Goofy girl!

*

Showing up late was fashionable wasn't it? Only when you've had a 'family' meeting and your parents waylaid the well laid plans for the evening. Delilah shows up with a couple of other girls but as they beeline for the bathrooms to tramp up their attire now that they are away from the dutiful parent that dropped them off, Delilah gets a pair of skate rentals from the counter. She walks over to the seating area and slowly starts changing into her skates, deliberately taking her time as she watches those already out on the rink. Just checking out who all was there. She notices a familiar face or maybe two, not sure with the lighting or lack of, and she pauses as she watches Everett out there, hands poised on her laces.

*

With the pursuit engaged, it quickly becomes clear that Kyrie's plan is not to outrun the superstar athlete. Oh no, she is going to outskate him! Specifically, she fearlessly makes her way through impossibly tight crowds, taking advantage of her small stature and years of dance training to wind her way through the oblivious skaters like a serpent coiling through the tall grass prairie outside of town.

The desperate plaintive vocals of Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" become the soundtrack for this chase as Kyrie calls back to Eve, "Head's up, Day Glow. It's like gramps tells me: It's like being chased by a bear. I don't have to be faster than him, just faster than the person skating next to me. You know, for all those times when bears chase you on roller skates."

Amazingly, Eve seems quite practiced on her skates and is keeping pace with Kyrie, trailing only a few feet behind. It's as if… she is also an athlete of some kind! Will wonders never cease. The latter's warning call has Eve turning her head to briefly look backwards at Everett. Well yes, there he is! Turning back to Kyrie, she lifts both hands to brush her flowing curls away from her face. "Aren't you forgetting that the bear's only chasing the gal who poked him with a big stick covered with her honey? The other gal's just an innocent bystanding and adoring fan!" Eve calls right back. At this point the group has already reached the other side of the ring, and is on the way back towards where Delilah and friends are watching.

*

So Kyrie's nimble skating and dance moves prove to be too much for Everett, as he fails to catch back up with her to return the tag. He comes close, a couple times, but she manages to duck out of the way at the last second or put the body of a non-participant in between them. So, Everett chuckles and nods, slowing back down to a normal skating speed. Look, he hasn't forgotten how! "Aight, shorty. Aight. I see you. You got me," he calls after the girl. Eve's response elicits another chuckle from the boy, as he grins. He'd forgotten how much he liked coming to the skating rink! He hasn't spotted Delilah yet, what with his focus having been on the rink, and the fact that the lights OUTSIDE of the rink are probably dark enough that it's hard to see.

*

It was the oldies played here that brought in some of the patrons and the music had grown on Delilah over the years. Tapping her skate to the beat she starts in on the other one, still taking her time, in no hurry to get to the limbo. Maybe the Hokey Pokey or couples skate. Except that had her looking back out to the skaters again. The chase was on and it looked like Kyrie had the jump on Everett, but she hadn't written him out yet. As the chase slows she doesn't get to her feet yet, laughing to herself at the antics of the trio. A quick glance towards the bathrooms ensures her friends are still somewhere within and so she takes the opportunity to get to her feet and carpet walk towards the railing at the side of the rink, pushing off and out there as the trio approach. "Hi! Looks like a fun game!" A grin given to them, if they look her way.

*

This time around the ring, Kyrie diverts off to the door alongside the half-wall and hops out of the rink, gliding over to a table where she pirouettes before flopping down into a chair with far less grace and aplomb. "Give 'em hell, Muscles!" she calls out to Everett and the skaters she may have coaxed into her hijinks. Mission accomplished.

She glances down at her phone and furrows her brow, letting out a melodramatic sigh as she begins to unlace her skates, "Dammit, I'm going to be late for my shift again. You'd think Steve would just have the 'being on time is part of the job' speech canned on a cart for me at this point," she says to whoever happens to be standing next to her as she gathers her things and starts to head for the door.

Before she leaves, however, Kyrie turns back to the skaters and yells out, "Yo, Day Glow! You are totes cool. Definitely not a Noodle Butt. DM me or pop by the station and I'll give you a special on-air shout-out and your favorite song."

*

Seeing Kyrie escape the rink, Eve also slows down without completely stopping, a big grin still on her lips as she holds up one hand in a surfer's salute. "Will do! And that's Kee Morgan, ladies, gentlemen, kids and losers!" She announces loudly to everyone within earshot. Of course, she's carrying on, but she does so while also clapping her hands. Noticing Delilah as she skates past, Eve gives the other blonde a Vulcan salute. "Cops and robbers, babe!"

*

Kyrie has left.

*

When Kyrie decides she needs to leave, Everett smirks and calls after her, "Chicken!" Then he throws a peace sign in her direction, still failing to catch the girl's name. But, when Delilah suddenly appears, Everett almost stumbles, just barely manaing to keep his balance. He doesn't, though, and slows to a stop next to her. "Actually, she just hit me and said I was it, so I think we were just playing tag. What are you up to, shorty?" he asks, smiling.

*

A wave is tossed after the departing Kyrie and a grin returned to Eve as the girl skates past and Everett comes to a stop beside her. She almost stumbles too, because she had been prepared to push off, but she catches herself on his arm and straightens, keeping from falling. "Hey! How are things going here?" Remaining there at the side, she holds the rail and steps back onto the carpet. "Tag sounds fun, but it looks lke you were losing." Laughing, she throws a wave to Eve, "Maybe it's time the bad guys won once?"

*

"Feh!" Everett says. FEH! "I ain't skated since last year, what with football and e'rything. Course she go'n win at first," he responds indignantly. When Delilah uses him as a prop to keep from falling, he also reaches out to try and help hold her steady. "… you good?" he asks, an eyebrow quirking. Eve's antics just make him chuckle and shake his head a little. "Shorty wylin' out." And then, there were two. "… so … you into skating?"*

*

"Only when I'm sober." Lila must be sober then!? Hands hold the bar as she tilts her head back and offers him a smile, her expression clear enough to reassure she definitely was sober. "Yeah," she says softly. "I'm good. Wasn't expecting you to stop is all." A look after Eve and she laughs as well, "Kind of fun, being on skates. I want to go try ice skating one one of the public skate days there. We should get Brendan to show us around."
