(2018-10-01) Popcorn and Scary Movies
Stan stops by to watch a movie with Katherine.
Players:
stan..katherine..

There is a fire laid out in the fireplace, flames licking at two logs that seem to have been scented with something floral. Two large bowls of popcorn are set out on the large sectional couch, and a movie is paused on the television above the mantle. Apparently Katherine has picked Children of the Corn, and is standing behind the couch folding a large quilt into a smaller square so that she can place it on the end of the couch.

*

Stan has made sure to bring a lot of different kinds of drinks. Anything one could think of perhaps. A few of each type, from tonic water and coke to root beer and ginger ale. Along with coffee and tea and even a few alcoholic options just in case. Knocking on the door as he arrives.

*

Kate opens the door when she hears the knock, stepping back to let Stan enter. "Evening." She says with a bright smile, gesturing for Stan to go ahead of her, pointing the way to the greatroom. "I got a movie in the DVD player, I hope you don't mind that I decided on one without you." She trails behind him and when they enter the greatroom she points to a little cooler. "You can set those in there, there is some ice if we need it." Taking a seat on the couch, she curls her legs underneath her. "Welcome to my home, make yourself comfortable."

*

Stan does smile as she greets him, "Evening. Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long." He offers. Moving inside at her gesture. Getting rid of any outdoors clothing, of jacket, shoes and so on. "Thought we were going to argue over movies." He teases. "But yeah, it's fine." He says and seems a bit curious what they are watching. Setting the drinks down at the cooler. "Sounds good." Once done he will find a seat next to her on the couch. "Thanks." Is replied with a smile before he takes a look around the place. "It does look nice." He tells her, trying to make himself comfortable. "Want something to drink right away?" He asks with a glance towards her.

*

"I'll take a soda, sure." Kate responds, passing a bowl of popcorn toward Stan. "So have you ever seen this?" She gestures towards the television, an impish grin on her face. "I love this movie, I think I've watched this about fifty times when I was a kid." She reaches for her bowl of popcorn and pops a kernel in her mouth. "You didn't keep me waiting, I just spent the afternoon cleaning. It needed to be done anyway, right?" She waits for him to get her a soda, and fixes himself a drink. "Once you're settled, I'll press play."

*

Stan does slide over a soda to her before taking the bowl. "Thanks." Turning his gaze from her to the television before nodding, "Ah, yes. I believe so. Rather, I believe I might have seen all of them." He admits with an amused smirk. Deciding on his own drink before leaning back and tasting some of the popcorn. "Ah nice. All right, I'm good to go."

*

Kate settles back against the back of the couch, hugging her bowl to her. She starts the movie and she shifts excitedly in her seat as the credits start. "Did you have any trouble finding the place?" She asks, glancing aside at Stan, a smile on her face. "I was afraid the directions I gave you were crappy." Her cheeks blush as she grabs as handful of popcorn. Realizing that she's talking through the movie, she turns back to the television, eyes going wide as the begining shot sets the scene.

*

Stan does glance her way, grinning at her excited movements. "Well, I almost thought you were tricking me." He teases before winking, "But no, not too bad. Your directions were quite fine." He assures her. Grinning as she focuses on the movie again, doing the same himself. Taking a sip of his soda.

*

Kate slants a look at Stan, smirking slightly. "No no, I wouldn't do that. If I didn't want to watch a movie, I'd say as much." She sticks out her tongue and then turns back to watch the movie for a few moments. "Have you ever read this book? I have, it's pretty creepy, more creepy than the movie I think." She tilts her head slightly, narrowing her eyes. "I think I might decorate the house around Stephen King this year."

*

Stan chuckles, "Well then, the more you know…" He offers a bit teasingly. Grinning at her sticking out her tongue at him. Offering a wink in response. "I've missed the book actually, sorry to say. Probably should read it though." Nodding agreeingly. "You probably should. Though careful with an elevator full of blood, that just sounds messy. And don't even tell me where you even got that much blood." He jokes.

*

"I was at the library earlier today, they have a whole section on him. Go get yourself a card and check out some books." Kate says, chuckling softly as she watches the television. "The book is better than the movie, but I find that they usually are." She winces at the mention of an elevator full of blood. "Gross." She snorts out a soft laugh, shuddering as she shoves another handful of popcorn into her mouth.

*

Stan grins and nods, "I will. I have read some of his books. And seem probably all movies." He admits. "And perhaps, though a lot of movies do manage to invoke a message of their own. Shining is amusing with all the easter eggs in the movie." He offers and does let out a soft laugh at her snorting one out. Eating some of his own popcorn.

*

"So Stan, how come you look so familiar to me?" Kate asks, gazing in his direction as she picks at her popcorn bowl. "I know that I've seen you before, but I don't think it was around town." She scoots down against the back of the chair, knees cradling her bowl.

*

Stan does stiffen for a moment, though it is soon gone as he shrugs, "Perhaps someone similar looking? Or could it be from a picture? Maybe I know someone you know?" He suggests and shrugs. Not wanting to hide anything, but at the same time not wanting everyone to know so that there is a media circus around town. His eyes looking over at her with a small smile.

*

"If you say so, I'll figure it out eventually." Kate responds, a small smirk on her face as she gazes to the television. "So how have you found the town so far? Found any fun hideouts to hang out at?" She brushes her hair back behind her ears as she glances towards Stan. "Don't worry, I won't press, pry or search. It'll come to me eventually why you look familiar."

*

Stan chuckles and nods, "Perhaps I'll know from where." He says and shrugs. Rather, perhaps he'll trust her with it sooner or later. Either way he just offers a smile before following her gaze to the screen. "It has been quite nice. Been looking around some. Think I found my favorite hideout though." Looking over, "Here." He teases with a cheeky look. "I am sure it will." Studying her for a moment.

*

Kate lets out a soft laugh, smiling towards Stan. "Sweet of you to say, wait until you meet my little sister, she might change your mind." She takes a handful of popcorn and munches on it. "Oooh my favorite part. I love watching these creepy kids chase the grown ups through the town." She sits up a little straighter, her eyes glued to the television.

*

Stan grins, "Well. Don't leave me alone with her then." He suggests and grins. Eating more of the popcorn. An amused smile as he watches the scene as well, shifting to make himself a bit more comfortable. "They are indeed creepy. Like those kids in the Village of the damned."

*

"I liked that movie too, but not as much as this one. Blue eyes and blonde hair isn't enough to scare me." Kate responds, a wry look on her pretty features. "Unless the toxic blonde is a frenemy of mine." She gets to her feet, walking toward the kitchen. "Would you like a little sandwich, Stan?"

*

Stan grins and nods, "Fair enough, kids with sickles might be scarier." He agrees. Not able to help himself as he does stare in her direction for a moment. Following her with his gaze. "Sure, if you're offering how could I say no." He says with a bit of a grin.

*

Kate disappears in the kitchen for a few moments and when she returns, she has a plate with two sandwiches cut in half. She sets the plate down before she settles back into her seat, pulling her feet up onto the sofa. Almsot absently she takes a half of a sandwich and watches the television as she takes a bite, completely distracted by the movie as it whips into a fever pitch.

*

"Thanks." Stan offers in return as he leans to take a piece and lean back to enjoy the movie as well, seeming quite focused on it. His wrist unknowingly lands on her ankle as he is caught up in the movie. Grins, "This part is nice." He says in a lower voice as to not disctract from it too much.

*

Kate jumps as Stan makes contact, flashing a grin in his direction. "When they set fire to He Who Walks Behind the Rows, it's creepy. Super creepy." She shifts a bit, putting a smidge of distance between them as she takes another bite of her sandwich. Flame races across the screen and Kate has to work not to cheer on the protagonists, a grin on her face.

*

Stan does blink and glance over, grinning in return as he notices her reaction. "Sorry." He says with a wink. Nodding agreeingly though. "Indeed it is." Shifting back to his side. Studying the movie curiously as he watches the scene play out. A captivated look in his eyes.

*

"You're fine." Katherine murmurs, setting aside her sandwich as she gets involved in the movie. The last fifteen minutes are lots of blood, gore and thrills and she seems absorbed in each one. Once she breaks her gaze from the television, she glances towards Stan. "So when are you going to start coming out and about into the city? Have you started taking patients here yet?"

*

Stan does look over at her. A smile does come over his face as he seems amused at how absorbed into the movie she is before he is looking that way as well. "I do like how they pace this." He admits and grins. Though as she looks towards him he does shrug. "Ah. well. I have been about some. I did go to the Octoberfest after all. And yeah, a few. Though I try not to gossip about them." He teases her with a wink.

*

"Where are your offices at?" Kate asks, curiousity written all over her face. "Oh the festival was amazing." She responds, a slight smile curving her lips upwards. "It turned out a lot better than I thought it might." She brushes her hair back again. "Well try to get out and about more, there are some really nice people in town, could make a few friends!"

*

"Over at the plaza." He tells her. Nodding agreeingly, "Other than a pickpocket, yeah. It was nice when I went as well." He offers and smiles. "Oh? Any special reason?" He asks and grins. Watching as she brushes back the hair. "I will. I have met a few. Jo, Luke, Kyrie. To name a few." He offers and smiles. "People have been interesting."

*

Kate laughs softly, nodding. "I missed the pickpocket, luckily. I don't really carry much on me for the festivals, keeps me from spending too much." She points upstairs, a silly grin forming on her face. "Oh, well..there was this huge teddy bear at the goldfish bowl tent, and someone won it for me. He's my new best pal." She watches as the credits start on the movie. "I think we talked for at least half of that." She remarks, wrinkling her nose a bit.

*

"Well, he didn't steal from me. But a few others." Stan explains. Letting out a long ah. "I see. Sounds like a good guy then." He says and chuckles, looking to the movie and grinning. "Means we should probably have to watch another." He suggests with a chuckle. "Not that I mind talking to you."

*

"What movie would you like to watch?" Kate responds, eating popcorn from her bowl. "I don't know about good guy, but he's something else. That's for certain." She glances towards the television and points to a stack of cases. "See if you can find a good one in here?"

*

"Not sure" Stan admits. Eating some popcorn before he rises to try and find a movie. "Fair enough. Not sure if I've met him." Hard to know when a name was never given. He looks through all the movies to see if he can find an interesting one. "Want a comedy or another horror? Or what do you feel like?"

*

Kate blinks at Stan, before she bursts out into giggles. "I haven't even said who the him is." She gets to her feet, moving to look over the movies with Stan. "I'm not sure. You?"

*

Stan grins, "Fair enough." He offers and glances over as she comes closer, studying her for a moment. "Well, either works for me. It or perhaps a movie like Truman Show? Or Old school slasher flick? Maybe a really creepy movie if you have one? Like japanese horror." He suggests, "If you get too scared you're free to hide behind me" He teases with a gentle nudge.

*

"Let's take a raincheck on the second movie. I'm going to clean up and I think I might get ready for bed. I didn't realize how tired I was until I stood up and moved around." Kate laughs out loud, shaking her head towards Stan. "A strong woman never hides behind someone, they grab their baseball bat and start swinging, you know?" She tilts her head slightly, eyes narrowing. "I should get a baseball bat, huh? Before someone goes slasher on our town?" She giggles at the thought.

*

Stan nods, "Of course." He offers as he rises. "That is true. Nor do I think you really need to hide." He says, laughing a bit about her getting a bat. "You can never be too safe." He says as he rises to his feet. "Besides, a badass chick is kind of hot." He teases. "But I will head out and let you go to sleep." He says and offers a smile. Starting to head for the door, seeing if she follows to say goodbye.

*

Kate, like a good hostess, does follow Stan to the door, opening it and smiling. "Thanks for stopping by, Stan. It was nice to get to know you more." She leans against the door, brushing her hair away from her face. "Let me know if you need any help finding anything around town, yeah?" She waits for him to walk to his car before she shuts the door.

*

Stan does turn to smile, "It was." Offering a hug if she allows. "Take care. I'll see you around." He tells her, smiling. "I will. Always nice with a guide." Taking a moment before nodding his head and moving out. "Bye Katherine. Goodnight and sleep well."
